Olivia is my seventh great grandchild. At the time of this painting she was not a week old yet and weighed less than five pounds. She was very tiny but caught up quickly. I wondered if I could do portraits in oil pastel and I selected this image thinking it would be easy. Is wasn't. But it did demonstrate that I can do portraits in oil pastel. This paintings is 8"x11" using oil pastels on Colorfix primed hot pressed watercolor paper.

Clayton
My oldest great grandson, Clayton, proved to be a great subject for this portrait taken from a candid photograph. It was a challenge because a white tablecloth just under his face was reflecting light upward onto his face. Also, the big smile pulled his nose up on the left (his right). It is 10"x12" using colored pencils on illustration board.

Nancy
This is my beautiful daughter, Nancy. I am pleased with this painting since the likeness is exact. Soon I'll learn if she agrees.
It is 14"x10" on Crescent Illustration Board using multiple brands of colored pencils.
This is the initial drawing using Terra Cotta colored pencil. I work with Terra Cotta until I feel that I have the likeness and then I add color.

Scratchboard Art
I tried my hand at creating scratch art. Using scratch board which is clayboard coated with India Ink, I scratched the image into the board with an Xacto knife and other sharp tools. On Happy Hoppy, I used colored pencil to tint the the white clay that was uncovered with the scratching. As you can see, I need some practice scratching my signature onto the board.

Haidyn
This January, I did two colored pencil pieces after taking a break from the medium for a few years. This is one of my great grandchildren modeling my hat. She's a real charmer. 9X11 inches
